West 4th and Christopher Streets get downright dangerous at night
Hoods from Jersey on the PATH train
Plus every other hood LGBTQ whateva from the 5 boros
Its pretty much gay Brownsville
I'm good
Thats ur answer Harry Pothead
Haha I didn't know there was a hood LGBTQ culture. Are they violent or just violently fabulous?
Also had no idea about how dangerous West 4th was at night. I do see seedy people around. I suppose most people just assume hey, it's the West Village and there's a lot of people around, it's all good.

I'm telling u thats what it is. Don't like West 4th at all.West 4th used to be a groovy place. No matter the gay culture. It used to be a fun area period. For everybody. It started getting wild like after 1999. Atmosphere changed. It hit Christopher Street 1st. Sometimes you would want to walk to the West Side Highway, but it would look strange like something was about to go down when you got to West Street, so you turned around and started walking back to West 4th Street area, I remember doing that on a few occasions. Early 2000s.

i sometimes go to Fat Cats on Christopher St but never on a Friday or Saturday night (especially in the Summer time). S**t gets wild!
I agree about your assessment. After 2000, that area got a little seedy and grimy.

What do you mean it gets wild? Last time I went it was just a bunch of people in their 20-40s hanging out listening to live jazz. Granted I didn't go during summer. What exactly do you observe

Usually gay culture makes things more lively and fun and is like, step 1 or 2 in the gentrification process. Hilarious that there's a hood gay culture and it's intimidating enough to make people wary. Hehehe
We have talked about this for years on here. Everyone buries their head in the sand about crime in the West Village at night.
You'd think for the millions people spend on those townhomes there'd be massive political pressure to having more NYPD foot patrols on the main streets. The last few years you'd be hard pressed to find much more than a lonely squad car doing a circle or two.

I remember some time back you posted that you were a regular at the basketball courts on W4th but stopped going around 2010 cause the players there were starting to draw from a rougher crowd. I'm surprised to hear the area was getting worse as far back as 1999/2000. That was still the Guliani era, would've though that nonsense wouldn't have been tolerated then.
