I very much like soup. I generally prefer soups that are less viscous, less thick, but in general I like soups.

It doesn’t have to be a place that specializes in soup, but I’m curious about what some of the best soups in the city.

I’ll start off with Tanoshi’s miso soup which I think is incredible. The base is a broth that’s used the shrimp
heads and shells for the sushi and sashimi. It is fantastic.

Oh my god....

15 years ago on Chambers Street

We had the real Soup Nazi

Pppl used to stand on line

Make your order, and keep it moving to the end!

It was just like the Seinfeld episode

Actually it was on Church between Chambers and Reade, east side of Church

Lobster bisque, and a slice of pumpernickel bread for $4.50

Man that was eating

RIP

I miss that soup place so much.

Sorry I dont have anything current on me at the moment.

There was an excellent split pea soup served on 116th Street in Harlem at this restaurant under the Malcolm Shabazz mosque. I don't know if they are still there, though

For just one soup that I really love--Pret A Manger's Moroccan Lentil. That is SO good.

I also buy a tomato vegetable soup pretty regularly at the Exchange Cafe on lower Broadway. It's nothing fancy--another of the Korean-owned delis with the hot and cold food bar and other types of food stations (I think they have a Mexican-food area and maybe some Asian stuff that I don't pay attention to.) Every day, they have half a dozen soups, and that tomato vegetable is a good one. It's vegan, though that's not why I get it. It's just a tasty way to get a bunch of vegetables in you and goes well at lunchtime with a salad and probably would with a sandwich too.

IIRC, they usually have hot and sour, split pea, cream of broccoli, and a couple others.

I had some from Whole Foods. The claims were just rubbery little bits... Never again... I stick with corn chowder, potato leek soup, etc. Soups that sit and stay warm without tasting horrible. Seafood can't be overcooked and when it is, forget it.
