Good. I hope that Strand is successful against the historical preservationist thugs. Seriously, I am disgusted that strangers can band together and put limits on what you can do with your own property. Its one thing if you, as the property owner, wants to have your property made a landmark. But this here is ridiculous.
There is a whole backstory to this that includes city giving new "tech hub" going up around corner on 14th at former PC Richard location (next door to NYU "Palladium" dorm).
Depending upon who you believe the fix was in to landmark certain buildings in that area in order for tech hub developer to get green light for his tall building. Local busybody activists have been worried and or moaning about what is going on with Union Square/Broadway area south of 14th and saw tech hub as another land grab by big RE.
Push for landmark status for Strand and several other buildings down there was (and is) seen as a political move to keep a lid on development on Broadway and East Village area which is rapidly gentrifying.
Story is unfolding as some down there aren't satisfied with what has been done and are pushing for more. In particular wanting city to make area some sort of limited development that would stop hotel and some other construction as of right, but instead force developers to go through city's land use system. There local elected officials and their supporting minions would have chances to force developers to heel.
Let a residential tenant make some noise like this and watch all the pro-LL people come out the woodworks talking about its so hard being a LL, cant make a dollar, etc
Bunch of hypocrites on here.

It would be a shame if New York's classic architecture was demolished for more ugly buildings

Then those groups lobbying for the landmark status should just buy out the building and landmark it. Its funny when the financial loss is shifted to someone else, everyone is for it, but when it comes time to put up the $$$ for your own ideas, everyone changes their mind.
I don't understand your point. What do you mean, "Here we go"?
