I've never been there but weather being so nice this week, I thought I'd make a trip.
Tripadvisor is saying it's dead in the off season. Any truth to this?

I've gone in the dead of winter and restaurants were opened. It's a nice area to walk around in.

You could call -

https://www.sammysfishbox.com/

https://cilobsterhouse.com/

https://www.originalcrabshanty.com/

There are so many good restaurants, one of them has to be opened.

I was only on City Island once, in 1987. We went to a seafood place close to the City Island Bridge, possibly the 'Sea Shore' but it had a different name back then. I have family in the east Bronx, maybe next time we can all visit City Island.

I go there occasionally for Lobster. But at least the place I usually go to has gotten stupid expensive. Haven't been for a while.

I'm ashamed to say that I've never been to City Island. There are too many parts of the city that folks who live in the city never travel to, which is a shame as there are real jewels in some parts.

Off-season is the best time to go, peak season is as obnoxious as it gets, no parking, overcrowded, and, towards the only cheapy (gross) fast-food type of restaurants on the Southern tip of the island, there are always undesirable gatherings that have happened to end up in major brawls.

City Island is good to go any time of the year IMO

Another vote for Sammy's Fishbox.
