I have used this rule of thumb for years.

As an Example..............

Say you figure on dropping $6,000 a year in estimated taxes.
Divide 6,000 by 4= 1,500
That will be $1,500 payments every quarter ( 4 X per year ).

Every quarter ( 3 months ) send out a check as followed.
2/3 to the state and 1/3 to the City.
Pay N.Y. State $1,000
Pay City of New York $500

I leave the Yonkers and MCTMT with the amount of $ 0 each
since I am not a not an employer or a Yonkers resident.

MCTMT only for employers not employees.

If you live in Yonkers you are not a NYC
resident and are not required to pay NYC taxes.
You do have to pay taxes to the City of Yonkers .

Best wishes...
P.S.
I am not an accountant....I am an old retired blue collar worker..........2 days older than dirt.

Does it really matter? The NY state and NYC taxes and payments are combined on the individual return. Am I missing something? As long as you pay the correct amount for NYS and NYC I don’t see how it matters the way you allocate them on the payment voucher.

Also if you only owe $200 in estimated income taxes for the year you don’t even have to pay estimated tax. Just pay them when you file the return. I am assuming you may not have paid them in prior quarters or you would just do what you did when making the prior quarterly payments.

Great Question. You are not missing anything.
I simply have a documented record on my end how I itemized my payments.
What and how the city does it on their end is not my business.

Aren't the two combined together for tax purposes for NYC residents?

Why is there an asterisk next to NYC and Yonkers? Are you required to fill out everything that has an asterisk next to it, because I can't see how one would pay tax to both NYC and Yonkers.
