The city economy is slowly improving and more jobs are hiring but the city can’t find enough workers some business are closing early.

“He stressed on "Cavuto: Coast to Coast" that it has been "difficult to find reliable, qualified staff" to work at his New York City restaurant during the coronavirus pandemic due to the government handouts - or because, he said, many workers moved to Florida where the economy has fully reopened.”

A new survey by the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce found that 64 percent of small business in the borough are experiencing difficulties filling available positions despite a major push by the city to reopen.

Mayor Bill de Blasio admitted Thursday that the Biden administration’s generous jobless benefits are hindering the return of employees to work as businesses try to reopen from COVID-19 shutdowns.

“I think there’s an issue there,” Hizzoner acknowledged when asked at his daily briefing how he plans to rev up the city’s economy again if workers find it more lucrative to stay home than return to work.

raise the minimum wage to $30, which should be more than what you can get on unemployment and govt benefits.

I’m not so sure about that in NYC. They’ve priced the average person out- who can afford to live there? If I’m a minimum wage worker then I’m going to live and work somewhere with a much lower cost of living.

Did NYC just become expensive?

Minimum wage workers (especially single mothers) have it better here than in almost any state.

On the aca a minimum wage worker can get the equal to thousands in health insurance assistance that the rest of those with higher incomes would behave thousands come out of their check for.

Get it low enough and you get free Medicare ..for a family that can represent as much as 10k or more.

Very few low wage earners just live on their wages with no additional perks or assistance.

Feel bad for low wage workers who were slaving for survival. Hope they find better places to live and work at .

Nyc did not become more expensive but it is not as attractive to work in a restaurant.
Restaurant workers are making less because the table turnover is not what is was and tips are way down and also it is more dangerous in that diners do not wear masks. That’s the segment that is having the problem finding workers.

...and who wants to work the restaurant industry in a state that gives its supreme overlord carte blanche to shut them down at a whim, destroying one's livelihood?
