Evidently it did because it seems like the removal of the masks is what caused this surge. Had the CDC not change its guidelines prematurely back in May, we might not be in this mess again right now.

Texas ending it's mask mandate as did Florida did not create initial surges.

Freer movement across the country and open businesses caused this surge.

As long as humans cohabitate without respirators/n95 masks- such will continue.

Do it serious or don't bother.

And if you look at the cases now, Texas and Florida are extremely high compared to the rest of the country…

That's what people are speculating. There is no proof.
The surge most likely is because people are now living life and being social again.
In any case it's a virus that isn't going away, so we need to learn to live with it. Not keep hiding.

It will go away if people just did what they were supposed to do. But people are stubborn, so yeah, because of that, it ain’t going away!

It's been around long before 2020...
Just like other viruses you adapt and learn to live with it.

Apparently we can’t because we don’t have the hospital capacity.

Yes- but mask mandates have not changed from months ago. It's not as if we took masks off a few weeks ago and now this is happening in those states- they've had lax restrictions for some time.

Delta is either more transmissive than earlier, or the reality that summer heat in Florida and Texas create a huge convergence of people inside where COVID is transmitted more rapidly.

Masks and Social Distancing work- until you stop doing them.
The hope is/was that Vaccines would limit spread by limiting hosts- but it is appearing that is less than the case.

Now... I suspect little that will work other than vaccinating, and moving on with newer medicines.

According to what our good friends, Fauci and Walensky, are saying, the vaccines are still highly effective in preventing you from catching and transmitting. Breakthrough infections are still rare, they claim. So somehow, this Delta variant is soooo contagious that it's circumventing around the vaccinated and finding its way to the unvaccinated. That appears to be the case because we have a little more than 75% of adults vaccinated here in NY and this damn thing is still spreading like wildfire over here!
