anyone from michigan have some stories to tell about moving to new york? Specifically any fellow Kalamazoo people? I'm kind of looking for advice from anyone who might have recently relocated to escape the dire economy.

I'm headed to New York City in July. Lived in Michigan most of my life and recently moved back to Michigan for nearly a year after living in Los Angeles for 4 years. Can't wait to make the move to NYC!!!! I hope hear from other Michigan Transplants as well. Never coming back to Michigan again, I hate this state and the mid-west.

Well, I certainly do not have the same feelings as the poster above, I love the Midwest, and am a proud Michigander. I have been seriously looking at job offers from the NYC area, and am really considering a possible move also. I would consider NJ burbs or a somewhat affordable area of Long Island. I would not live in Manhattan.

What's the point of coming all the way to NYC only to seek out people from your home town? Do you think advice from Kalamazoo people is really that much better than advice from people coming from Akron, Ohio or Pierre, South Dakota?

They're probably looking for some no-BS advice. Midwesterners are good for that.

The only no-BS advice comes from Kalamazoo? That's what's being asked for.

As a matter of fact, a case could be made that New Yorkers are very good at blunt no-BS advice.
