Many many people in this world go through custody fights. A mentally healthy person would simply go through the court process as kids usually end up with the mother anyway. A mentally ill person may kidnap the kids and run away...someone suffering even more with mental illness could do what she did.
Sometimes sitting and thinking what normal person would kill their children could easily get you to a logical answer that is no normal mentally healthy person would do so. You know who would though?? A mentally ill individual would

She was in a custody fight with the father. Rather than surrender control of their kids to him she decided to murder them. She is not mentally ill. Just a depraved and selfish individual who knew exactly what she was doing.
Mothers who do this are much more than not, mentally ill. You base your "she's not mentally ill" accusation on absolutely nothing and just common sense tells you that she probably was.

Mental illness is way over prescribed in our society. It's used to excuse what was and is commonly known as anti-social behavior.
No longer do people have poor impulse control, anger issues, short tempers, etc.
Instead now it's all under some general, non description notion of "mental illness" both to push prescription drugs and to extract taxpayer dollars.
So many stories over my lifetime of distraught mothers snuffing out the lives of their children.
So so far removed from God.........................................so so sad.........................heartbreaking.
A lot of you here don’t know what a mental illness is…that might the where the issue starts in our society…. A normal healthy person does not go and senselessly kill their own children. How is that even a debate here? She was ill!
I dealt with a case where a mother went to the hospital with her children told the doctors she thought something was wrong with her she was in clear distress having some kind of break down. The doctors turned her away she went home killed her kids and herself. It’s so unbelievable to see some of you say how she was “angry” or what have you when killing isn’t normal. That case I worked on haunts me to this day. People who are begging for help don’t get it told nothing is wrong then sent back home to deal with their illness on their own. It’s sick.
Keep up that mentality and then wonder why crimes like this happen smdh

The solution is simple. Capital punishment should be reenacted in NYS. Except this time make the solution punishment by poetic justice.
For ex. Drown someone? Have her ex waterboard her to death. He's probably grieving. Or do the mafia punishment of tying cement blocks around someone's feet during low tide. Then let the water slowly rise over the night.

Such individuals are a threat to themselves and society. The best that can be done is to keep them locked up in a hospital ward. However, in this case the mom already killed 3 people. The time for hand wringing and liberal sympathy is gone.
Did she kill someone? This is a yes/no question based on facts. Was she in a violent dispute with her ex? Again yes/no.
Did she act with premeditated planning? Yes/ no test again.
Yes to all. It's not even in dispute as the cops caught her red handed and she confessed without prompting. So, apply the punishment.

Just like I stated earlier. Only a matter of time before someone claims our society failed this woman and her children. It's always someone else's fault.
It's not the fact of decades of poor behavior that was never checked. Decades of poor impulse control. Decades of general anti social behavior. Decades of society encouraging these types of people by not checking them. Then when they actually confront getting checked (eviction and custody proceedings ) they lash out because that's all they've been doing their entire life and it was rewarded.
But yes, it''s always society's fault.
Do you know what it takes for the state to wrestle control of children from their parents? The same people that make it impossible to punish poor parenting and even encourage it in this city, then proceed to lecture everyone about how society fails people when they do something they've constantly done throughout their life but only on a grander scale.
