Haven’t used Uber for~3years. Just got a price shock on my app. Good that my old car service company charges only a few bucks extra for the same ride. It is insane. I will delete my app soon. What is your experience lately?

What time of the day was it? Was it raining?
a few bucks extra?? how much are we talking about?
Ever since 2021 or something. Some article came out stating these are the prices they should’ve always had because according to them they haven’t been able to make a profit. (Don’t know if any of that is true just an article I read explaining why the prices are so high now) But yeah prices pretty much doubled since 2019
They achieved their market share goals and investor funds to endlessly subsidize rides were drying up.
I only take Uber if I can put it on the corporate card now anyways and I surmise that just like airlines, business travel is the real profitability driver for Uber in NYC nowadays.

around 10:30 last night from LGA. The 4xUber economy price shown was $124, black car was $75 (not sure what is this option). all other options were higher, tips not included. My car service charged a flat rate of $35 to get me to where I needed to go (~20 min ride). BIG difference!!!
I use Uber often or I should say used to use them often. Their prices have skyrocketed. I price shop whenever I do need a ride and am shocked. Places that I have gone pre-pandemic for years have easily doubled in price. Usually take UberBlack, and often times the base service (UberX) is MORE expensive. lol I usually drive, but within Manhattan I sometimes need a taxi. I have since switched to Revel. Last time I was going to an event that involved booze so I could not drive. Needed a taxi for a short distance. Revel was cheaper.

I was on a business trip and I didn't have to pay out of my own pocket last night, but I was detested with the huge increase with Uber price. I used uber at the other end of my trip and paid ~$15 for a 15 min ride to the airport. I felt bad about how cheap it was so I tipped the driver with the difference according to a "fair market value" per my assessment...he left a long thank you note afterwards....
