I live in Ridgewood and it’s a pretty decent neighborhood but has a remote feeling (IMO) for being in the middle of Queens.

Ridgewood used to be beautiful from border to border.
Pocketed areas of Ridgewood that are nice are rare.
Some places off Freshpond, Metropolitan and that's about it.
