How do you buy a house with a Mofo still living there. Isn’t that what the attorney is for? Or did they buy the house on eBay.

Thought the same thing. Nobody should ever buy a house or an apartment with somebody else's whatever in residence. Even if they intend to rent the premises after closing they should insist on premises being delivered empty and vacant at closing.
Also, there is always a walk through the day before or morning of a closing so it must have been obvious that the place was neither empty nor vacant.. Either these people are idiots or their lawyer is an idiot or they decided they didn't need a lawyer which makes them even bigger idiots.

How could they not know someone was living there? They probably got the house for cheap because of the squatter and are now going for sympathy to get the guy out. My neighbor's house had renters who had stopped paying and wouldn't leave and the house sold for $150,000 less than market value because of the squatters.

My opinion.

Brett Flores the squatter is public information
thanks to this news article. Dumb move.
Why did he draw attention to himself like this?
Once he's out who will ever want to rent to him?

There is no way the buyers are this stupid not to do a walk thru or have their attorney put in the contract, like almost all contracts, that the house to be delivered "broom clean" on the day of the closing.

I bet that they got this house at a huge discount and figured that either the guy would leave on his own or there was an agreement to pay him 15-20k to go away. None of that worked out so now we have to read 6 different NYP articles about it. And not one of those articles ask/answer this question.
