There are articles in the media every day on the subject of proposed changes in squatters' law in New York, and there are now several proposals with bipartisan support. The only thing that those who want to preserve squatters' rights have to say is that squatting is very rare, so all concerns about it are just "fearmongering" :-). Here is an update:

The black supremacists in the state assembly won’t let a bill like this pass.

I don't really know. Squatting is not a racial issue. Although some people will indeed support anything that destroys property rights, ie, basically advocate for theft of property, or total governmental control over all property, to dictate any and all property rights - and those are often the same people who advocate for supremacy of the races that haven't historically on average owned much property. Hard to tell at this point what can happen with these anti-squatting bills - but it IS encouraging that many NY Democrats support them (in addition to all Republicans). The anti-squatting law in Florida passed because of critical degree of support from Democrats (in addition to all Republicans).

Black supremacists aren’t racial supremacists. They’re racial Marxists. I’m not even joking.

They won’t let a bill like this pass because that would be a major loss in their war against *oppressors* which theoretically could lead to more losses down the line. It’s the same reason why bail reform isn’t reformed even though it’s obvious to everyone that it’s failed as a policy.

This surge in squatting isn’t happening in a vacuum.

All of this is occurring due to a 2019 change in laws.

We have to blame DeBlasio too because he implemented no rent and no evictions during covid while people were getting paid to sit home.

Of course. BDB was tied into the entire agenda as well but I think he was just lazy/ cynical and let the city council do whatever they wanted to do.

That doesn't help much when the law-abiding homeowner was treated like a criminal.
