I was hoping someone could clue me into the safety in the area right around the Greenpoint Hotel located at 1109 Manhattan Avenue Brooklyn, NY?

I was wondering because of articles like this (federal prosecutors dubbing it one of the city's most dangerous single room occupancy hotels):

Makes me wonder about the area in the general vicinity? Safe? Walking south down Manhattan Ave 10 blocks to the Greenpoint Ave subway station? during the day? Night?

i've walked manhattan avenue from bedford avenue to the water at 11 PM saturday night and it was totally safe. the only "problem" i encountered was when i reached the water, there was a bunch of drunk polish kids having an impromptu party at the dead end, some sitting in their cars, and some running around throwing glass bottles (not at me).
