I recently visited NYC, and I'm obsessed. Planning another trip. But solo. And I am a senior.
I want to:
* Ride the subway all over Manhattan
* Dine at great restaurants
* Go to bookstores, vintage stores, etc.
* Want to explore Chelsea Market, Little Italy, Chinatown, The Village.
There's also an interesting site called CourseHorse. You can search for the dates you're thinking of travelling (unless it's really far out). If you just want to see what they offer, you can browse. Also try typing "tour" into the search box and seeing what comes up. https://coursehorse.com/nyc/classes?...r&suggest=true

When are you landing in the city? I can dispatch my friend who was born here and has 40 years of experience being unemployed. He's a huge library reader and knows where all the bookstores are.
He also enjoys dining at restaurants of all kinds and is a connoisseur of basically every type of food. Having started in the diners and casual dining world he can show you the best in affordable foods from West African to South Indian to North Italian.

I just need a travel companion. What do New Yorkers think?
Hell, I'd go with you. But here are some suggestions.
*I'm a big advocate of actual NYC guide books. You might buy a couple to give you more ideas.
*I'm a big advocate of buses, rather than subway, unless it involves very long distance. That way you can see everything around you, instead of burrowing underground.
*See if there are any groups that might give you a starting point for meeting people and finding a companion here. For instance, maybe you're an alum of a particular college. Or maybe you'd want to see if there are any MeetUp groups that would start you off where you might meet someone congenial. Or what if you looked for people in your hometown that would like to travel here with you?
