To be honest - There's no city in the world like New York!
The city has everthing - the people, skyline, food, culture, weather, beaches, location, buildings/scyscrapers, enterteiment, public transportation, clubs, restaurants, nightlife, daylife, plenty of things to do, shopping and much much more endless in this great city! NYC is also close to other cities, such as Casino-Mecca of Atlantic City, NJ, Boston, Philadelphia, Long Island etc. What else could you expect?
There is something sad and desperate about constantly having to tout your city. NYC has more amentities than any other place in the US, but it is also very dirty and has some of the worst ghettos in the whole country. It is what it is. I have a whole laundry list of places I would rather live than NYC.

Well-said. No matter how much NYC has to offer, there is stuff I want in a city that NYC can't offer. Sometimes less is more.
Low cost of living...not happening in NYC unless you live in the projects. I'd rather live in a city where I can live somewhere nice for cheap
Warm climate...once again, not happening in NYC
Natural scenery as opposed to man made...NYC has Central Park but that's it. I also just like the scenery of other regions better (examples: I like the live oaks/Spanish moss in the South, desert scenery of the Southwest, palm trees in warmer cities, etc)
Peace of mind...I like the peace of mind you get by living in smaller cities
Slow pace...I don't like the fast pace of NYC
Non-crowded cities...some people say the density of NYC is a good thing but I prefer non-crowded cities
Smaller cities may not provide as many amenities per se, but they provide a lot of what I personally am looking for and are a better fit for me.

Warm climate...once again, not happening in NYC - NYC has a warm climate but just not during the Winter (some days though), another reason why we're out of here.

Most of it is quite the opposite.

Slow pace...I don't like the fast pace of NYC - The whole city isn't fast paced like its made out to be, I'm a very laid back person and it feels weird when I'm in Manhattan.
Non-crowded cities...some people say the density of NYC is a good thing but I prefer non-crowded cities - Manhattan, Brooklyn, and The Bronx are dense. Queens & Staten Island aren't dense (some parts are though).
Smaller cities may not provide as many amenities per se, but they provide a lot of what I personally am looking for and are a better fit for me. - I too enjoy smaller cities, another reason why I'm counting the days lol.
Trust me I understand where you're coming from, I feel the same way as you but NYC isn't this big dense, dirty, rushed, etc. city that people think it is, don't get me wrong there are parts like that but its like less than half of the city.
PalmBch needs to realize that not everywhere is going to totally appeal to everyone.
Remember, New York City is not only Manhattan, it has Staten Island, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Queens. Not all parts of NYC are crowded. Manhattan has many streets that are very quite. Staten Island is the most suburban of NYC, does not even look like a city almost.
Yes, NYC is the most expensive city in the U.S., if not in the world.
New York has mild-warm temperate climate & plenty of sunshine. Only during winter months is cold.

You don't have to live the projects in order to find somewhere nice to live that is inexpensive in NYC. There are plenty of people that live in rent stabilized apts. in a very good/nice/safe neighborhoods.
