Hey Trag. Where the most broom garages ? Assuming manhattan? Do they do midnights is it hard to get ? Will have to do my picks and no idea what to pick. I know SI is not happening so debating between manhattan and bk.
I'm assuming your on the job already, I hope, if your looking to get to a broom garage. Most do have routes on mid- 8's, but usually its taken by some who can either hold that shift or don't wanna go out of town the next day. If your in the Sept. class, you will fall in where needed at any possible garage. But you do have a chance to put in a transfer before Oct. & Nov. classes come out.
That means you did not get reinstated in time for the list sanitation pulled from dcas for elegible candidates. They probably wont pull another list till after the November class for the 7th class if that even happens. This only from what i heard and or IMO.
I think lots of people overlook that fact. That was posted here long ago, that the longevity is not counted until you hit 25 years, so why people would leave after 20 is beyond me, they are giving away their own money. They hear "20 years" & don't bother reading the fine print. Yeah, you CAN retire after 20 years, but not using the salary you actually made for the last 5. because the 15 & 20 year increases only count toward the pension after 25 years.
after my 20, goodbye dsny and goodbye nyc.
I cant see living on a pension here even if you stay 25 yrs. Move where you will never see snow again.
Some people may have prior service from another agency that counts after the 20 yrs. Myself for example, I have 11 yrs prior from another agency. 20+ 11= 31 yrs total service which helps raise my pension to its max, which I think is 65% give or take.
As long as that agency falls into the NYCERS, ex. New York City Transit.
If I remember correctly it was 20 yrs=50%, 25 yrs= 57% 30 yrs=62%.
Not sure how the longevity pay is factored in for those putting in 25+ yrs.

Broom garages are tough to get into when you first get on the job. With it come steady days and making hours quite often. If you like to go out of town then thats the place to be. A lot of guys want to go there to finish probation.
Where are you sitting in class? All of us probably talk to eachother at class but don't know who eachothers online alter ego is.
