Hi everyone. My wife and I are heading up to NYC this coming weekend. On Sunday, we are planning to visit the Cathedral of St. John. While we are in the area (which I understand is architecturally stunning), we'd like to stick around for brunch/lunch. Neither my NYC guidebook nor my NYC-acquainted friends can provide me with any restaurant recommendations in the area, so I thought I'd post an inquiry here.

We'd prefer something not terribly expensive ($15-$18 per entree or similar), and preferably something that, on an early Sunday afternoon, wouldn't have a 1-2 hour wait. Other than that, we're open to any and all options. I understand there are a number of options along Broadway and Amsterdam Avenues, but would like to whittle down our choices.

Thanks in advance!

I really like Lyla's Cafe and Creperie on 123rd and Amsterdam (just north of Columbia). The restaurant next door (I think it's called Max's Soha or something) is always packed, but Lyla's is less crowded, and has better food, in my opinion. They serve a fantastic brunch menu with really good coffee and amazing crepes. Hope that helps! It's a little bit north of St. John the Divine, but not a ridiculous walk.

Lylia's has closed down. If you like good homestyle mexican food, I recommend Cinco de Mayo, right on 111th and Amsterdam. There is also Bistro Ten 18 on the corner of 110th and Amsterdam, the food is consistently good.

There is the Lime Leaf Thai restaurant on Bway near 108th, or the Indian Cafe also near 108th on Bway

Or just walk along Bway, you will probably find something you like.

Thanks for the recommendations. We love (well done) Mexican food, so maybe we'll give Cinco de Mayo a try.
