You can take the #3 train to Rockaway and walk. Its a pretty distance but stores are along the way as your walking.

4 train to utica avenue, then 14 bus will take you directly on pitkin avenue. shopping is from legion street to christopher avenue.

you can take the 4 to utica for the b14, the b14 is a horrible slow bus so another good way is to take the 3 to saratoga and take the b7 or to rockaway ave for the b60.

It's hard to give directions when you don't say where you're coming from. But from Broadway Junction (A,C,J, or L trains) you could get the B-12 bus going westbound, which will drop you off at Pitkin and Saratoga.

Take the 3 train to sutter and rutland road, walk a couple of blocks up sutter, make a left on grafton, then you would run directly into pitkin!
