Thank you in advance for anyone who may be able to help me out. I've been browsing the forum but needed a little more info. My husbands job will be relocating to the Binghamton area in the next few weeks. From what I've seen vestal seems to be a good fit for us. We are in our mid 20's and have an infant. Looking for a friendly neighborhood to enjoy for the next 2-5 years but hoping to move back home after that. Debating on (open to both at this point) more suburban vs more rural. I see homes in vestal range from under 100k to over 650k. Where I am from you see a range but nothing like this. For lack of a better explanation, are there "better" areas to look for within vestal? How is the resale of homes? Can you talk more about life in vestal? This is an abrupt move for us and the company is only giving us a few weeks. Im a little frazzled by this and appreciate the help. Thank you so much.

Vestal is basically the nicest overall town in the area. Better schools, higher average income, etc.

Anyway, go put it in on Google Maps and you'll start to understand. Vestal is physically quite a large town, it's 52 square miles, and ranges from pretty typical suburban neighborhoods closer to the Vestal Parkway (NY-434), to very rural heading South towards the PA state line.

The biggest thing I'd suggest is that you NEED to look at flood maps. Much of the town near the river floods, as do some homes near the various creeks. Plenty of the town is up on the hills and doesn't, but many of those <$100k homes are in the flood zones.

Otherwise, the most desireable, and the most "typical middle/upper class suburban" areas are the neighborhoods in the hills to the East of the University and to the South of Town Square Mall.
