I've read the NYS is doing more research to determine whether or not to allow fracking operations in the southern tier. Does anyone know when this decision will be made, one way or the other?
Cuomo said in February it would be "a couple of months." I would guess they would start the permitting process by the end of the year, and start drilling in 2013.
He also said, "It's not whether we're going to drill, it's how we're going to drill..." so I would think it's definitely coming to NY.

Fracking Survey conducted by SUNY Buffalo
Those are horrible numbers.... 2 in 5 drills with environmental concerns? They are touting that as some sort of accomplishment? If I messed up at my job 2 out of 5 times, I'd get fired.
Vermont is looking good! The governor signed the law today banning fracking!
3000 violations on 4000 wells? Yeah those are great numbers and only - key word only - 2 out of 5 were environmental. And the study was done by someone in bed with the gas companies. This article is good for toilet paper and nothing else.

It was easy for VT to ban fracking- there's no shale gas in the state! The industry isn't interested in VT, so there was no money spent on fighting the ban there. The industry is spending huge amounts of money in NY to open the state to massive development.

Yeah, but who knows what they will want to frack in the future. I am well aware about the money the gas industry is spending in NY. Too bad they don't spend it on helping the homeless or veterans or someone in need.

Not to dismiss charitable giving, but those gas jobs would go a long way to help alot of people. And a local economy thrives in every sector when people are working and have money to spend.
I think there are so many eyeballs on this that gas companies will be forced to practice in an environmentally safe way. I think it can be win-win.
