As a general rule, I don't think resale value should be a real concern. I'd go for the 08 myself. $2400 over the term of the loan with interest can add up to lots of pocket money
I'm not a Nissan watcher, so I don't know if any major tweaks came from 08-09. If they did, see if they're worth $2400 to ya.
No, the '08 is sitting in a warehouse so the dealer would actually have to get it from Nissan. The dealer does not have this car on it's own books so it's not losing money by holding it as inventory at this time.
This is not the final, negotiated price. I was going to see if they could bring it down another $1k but I doubt it since they don't need to move it (since it's not on their lot)...

As far as I've been able to tell there were no major tweaks from '08 to '09. From what I can tell, the cars are identical and both have exactly what I'm looking for.
It's a tough call. I'd think the '08 would drop off a little faster from initial purchase than the '09 would simply because it's a year older. It may be 'new' in the sense that it's never been driven but as soon as you buy it it's instantly a year old.
Ok, I've got news. Now, I have the option of the same exact car, same package, same color, almost 0 miles on an '08 or '09. The '08 is $2,400 cheaper than the '09--both brand new, never been titled. What's the better deal? If I sell in 5 years, would the '08 be worth more than $2,400 less than the '09 (assuming both would have had same amount of mileage, wear and tear, etc.)?
The 09 vert is just a carryover of the 08, so all things being equal I would take the 08 and save the money. You should look at both cars though and decide if there is something you don't like about one or the other...maybe one has the holes drilled into the bumper for the front plate, has scuff marks on wheels, or has bad swirls in the paint clearcoat. One will likely be in better condition if you inspect them carefully, and that's the one I would probably buy.
I know that cars aren't supposed to sit around without being used. Is there any risk that since the '08 has probably been sitting around for many, many months, there would be any problems? Would that be worth a $2,400 higher price for the '09?
The dealer is 100% firm on their offer. As I thought, since they don't currently own the '08, it's not worth it for them to buy it and sell it to me for any lower of a price.
It's not that big a deal to have a new car sitting around for a few months or even 6. I wouldn't worry about it if it test drives okay. Like I mentioned, choose the one that looks "more perfect".
So the deal was for $8k off sticker on the 09 and $2400 more than that ($10,400 off sticker) for the 08? Just go buy one of them already.

LOL! Unfortunately, the dealer is a couple hundred miles away so I would have to buy sight unseen.
