There was a recent case in which a teen drove drunk on New Years, then posted about it on Facebook. Two of his facebook friends contacted the police and he is now being charged with a DUI (they also have other evidence, like paint from his car on the damaged vehicle.)
He had over 600 'friends', so these may not have people who knew him personally.
If you saw someone post something that suggests they were involved in a crime, would you contact police? Does it make a difference if the crime was violent in nature? Does how close you are to that person make a difference?
If somebody wrote, "Wow. I had too much to drink last night and drove home. I'll never do that again," then of course I wouldn't turn them in.
But if somebody wrote, "Well, that S.O.B. won't be bothering me anymore. I took care of him once and for all," and the other party winds up missing, well yeah.

These posters said it very well.
If it was something serious in nature I would probably turn them in. If I suspected that they may be lying about it and making it seem worse than it really was I probably would not turn them in.
It would depend on a lot of things. Someone admitting that they really liked the staplers at work and took one home I would just assume that they were using it to do some of their job at home. If they said that they really liked the million dollars just sitting in an account at work and they took it (the million dollars) home that would be totally different.
Same. Way to general. If someone said that they were going to kill someone I might intervene.
In general I don't know anyone like that, and if I am uncomfortable with the nature of someones behavior
or posts on facebook, I delete them. I've done it before. Nothing illegal, though.
If it was a friend (i only have few close friends) then definetely no. But someone i know only from facebook admiting something like being drunk or doing car races (hate those people)....probably.
I guess you have to be in the situation to know.
But i would definetelty NOT turn a true friend of mine since i know them very well and im sure, whatever they did, thy sure have a good reason for it.
This sounds exactly like a seinfeld episode, in where Jerry asks Kramer if he would turn him in, and Kramer says: "sure". And then it goes on and its hilarious.
If there was any inkling that a child was being abused, then yes. Everything else, maybe. Depends on the nature of the crime and if the victim deserved it. Lol
People forget that FB is a social networking site, and they tend to post too much on there. If I read someone posting that they were going to hurt themselves, someone else, or did something illegal, I would report it immediately.
If the FB friends of some of the lunatics out there took it seriously, perhaps incidents could have been intervened.
