I think the OP is confusing ‘drunk’ with ‘under the influence’
Under the influence means that you ‘feel’ it and it may increase reaction times beyond a safe limit, under the law.
Drunk is consuming enough alcohol to seriously affect your judgement and/or personality and definitely makes it unsafe to operate machinery, walk along a dock or occupied roadway, or make important life decisions.
"Around other people" is tacked on mainly to belong in "Non-Romantic Relationships," though I genuinely wonder how much problematic drinking is private (without bothering to add a poll option about that).
"Drunk" is not a scientific term. As far as I know, it's only widely agreed to mean affected by alcohol. As someone who has never been intoxicated, I react to anyone who is as "drunk" (negative connotation). I'd rather not mince words about behavior I consider unwise.
Anyway, I went into this thinking most adults have gotten drunk (except for women over 60) and it looks like I was right, but quantifying things never hurts, and I've since not found any other poll about it.
Why do you think that women over sixty have never gotten drunk around their friends? We are normal humans. Interesting that you even care as you have never been intoxicated yourself and think it is unwise. Of course it could lead to getting fat and that would be a disaster in your eyes. You are the one who is unusual in this instance.
Many people have occasionally overly partaken at parties, special events, celebrations. Drinking alone is problematic if there is a problem. Not everyone who drinks is an alcoholic, or does bad things.

What the ****? What do you think women over 60 were doing 40 years ago in 1979?
