So, you never saw your aunt, is that correct?
Perhaps she is unwell or incapacitated, but you'd think the other people at the house would have told you that. Or worse, maybe she passed away?
If they didn't recognize you or were worried that you weren't who you said you were, they should have said that as well.
Requesting a welfare check is worth a shot.
Your Aunt probably passed away and they stuffed her into a chest freezer and are living off of her
SS, and retirement money.... Can't have some outsider finding the body.
The OP mentions the phone was "disconnected" but if you have not been in regular contact, how do you know they didn't just change cell providers or switch from land line to cell? Also, the OP did not say whether they were in contact by social media or email.
I did genealogy research during which I contacted relatives so distant they had no idea who I was. How did I reach out?
I wrote them a detailed, hand written, snail-mail letter. The OP might try that instead. Not once did I fail to get a reply when I tried this, and they did not even know me at all!
Here's a possibility, but it's just a wild guess.
They probably didn't recognize you and thought you were a process server, and they have some reason to be expecting one.
The disconnected phone is a clue they may be having problems.
Have they ever been strange before? With disconnected phone and no other way to contact, sounds like they have financial problems or are a little different.

Yes good idea, for OP to write an actual letter to the aunt. Sometimes we forget we can still do that.

Weirder things would have occurred. Hopefully, things aren't as dire as this, though.

LOL....I hate to say it but that is pretty much what I thought at first..
I don’t think the disconnected phone carries quite the stigma it used to. If it was a landline, they probably just got rid of it and went all cellular.
