I'll be moving to NC and working in Tarboro in the next month. I have lived in the Midwest my whole life and like the outdoors (mountain biking, walking, running, taking my 50lb golden retriever outside, boating, the water, auto racing, ATVing, etc). I'm also used to low crime rates. I'm 30, single, and finished college a while ago.
What would be a good place to locate to around or in Tarboro? I have an ATV and would like to go ATVing, get involved in auto racing (VIR maybe, anywhere else?), and be outside doing the activities mentioned above.
I'm looking at Zebulon (be closer to Raleigh and I have a friend there) and Greenville.
Any suggestions or information would be much appreciated.
Tarboro has a nice historic district near downtown but the town itself doesn't have much for single folks. Greenville or the Raleigh area would be better...the commute from Zebulon would be a long one - possibly an hour. Raleigh has lots to offer though as far as shopping, dining, culture, etc.
Greenville would be half hour commute, maybe a little longer depending on what side of town you live on. Greenville has a large university (ECU) and has a lot more shopping and dining options than Tarboro.
Nearest decent boating would be the Pamlico and Albemarle sounds, each about an hour away or more.
This thread should probably be moved to the Eastern NC forum.
mod should see it. There will be more folks who live there been there to give details about commuting. We lived in Eastern Wake / Zebulon and like someone said the commute is quite long. You might enjoy the drive as it is quite nice. The town of Tarboro seems very quaint in a good way. Not sure how far it is from Gaston Lake as a possibility for boating as well.
