I'm really curious. Why not?

It seems like you're just telling Yankees not to do so. I live in TX now moving from CA 28 years ago and we were always referred to as Yankees. Dumb!! Do you think North Carolina natives would consider a transplanted Californian living in TX as a Yankee like these crazy people do? Obviously, they don't know their history.

My son was once referred to as that **** Yankee's son. Unbelievable ignorant but ever so true.

I moved to Hickory (northeastern area) from central Florida last year about this time and I just love it. You couldn't pay me to move back! The job market isn't great but no worse than where I came from. Taxes are higher but real estate, car insurance and cost of living are much lower. One bit of advice, if you decide to move to Hickory, buy a street map...I still get lost.
