Think of "The nearest grocery store is 30 minutes away" areas in North Carolina, anything come to mind? I was in Warrenton a few months ago, and it really struck me as very "out there" even for rural NC. Can y'all think of other "middle of nowhere" locations?

Northern Cleveland County. They mostly go to Hickory for most of their shopping. I'd suspect that all or most of Rutherford County would meet your qualifications to some degree.

Tyrrell County, on the way to the outer banks is probably the most desolate, rural part of NC that I've ever seen.

I live 30 minutes "from town" no matter which town you're going to...I live in the southeastern corner of Cumberland County where it joins up with Bladen & Sampson. It's at least 30 minutes to Fayetteville, Clinton, and Elizabethtown.

I feel like the areas northeast of Raleigh definitely deserve a mention, though. Any of y'all been to Hollister? Wow! Now that's truly rural.

And by the way, I'm not trying to make fun of these areas if it comes across that way.

Throw Hyde County in, as well.

Otto, NC. Pretty secluded little place near the Georgia border.. That's right there is a border shared with Georgia in the far western part of the State.

Northwest Ashe County near Pond Mountain, where TN, VA and NC intersect.

Same with parts of Mayland -- Avery, Mitchell and Yancey Counties.

We have a place off the Blue Ridge Parkway and it is 25 minutes to any supermarket or shopping of note.

Some of those pockets east of Charlotte are pretty remote. Towns like Wadesboro, Troy, Mt. Gilead, Norwood, New London, Badin, etc.
