Hi, thinking of moving down to NC in next 2 year's. Fiancé is finishing up nursing school and I am a counselor. We want to stop down to visit. Is there a time of the year that's best?

We have family in VA and SC. So we were thinking of doing a 2 week trip. 3 days at our family in VA, visit Raleigh for 3 day's, go down to SC, and back up to Charlotte for 3 day's.

Any where to visit in these two cities?

Does one have a better advantage to the other. Friend told me nurse's are paid higher in Raleigh. Also heard there is a white water attraction in the heart of Charlotte is that true?

Appreciate the feedback.

There's much more to NC than just Raleigh and Charlotte. Your questions are so vague and broad that i can't even begin to answer them. The Whitewater Center is just outside of Charlotte:

U.S. National Whitewater Center

I'd suggest you think more about where you want to live...larger city, suburb, mountains, coast, etc. Whats the most important driver? Job? Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill (the "Triangle") and Charlotte arte the 2 best places for work, assuming a larger, somewhat urban or suburban place suits you. Search and read through the many existing threads for both areas.

Not thinking about where to live. Just want to see NC. Figured those two cities offer a lot of what the vibe is in NC. See if we like the statw driving through it
Check out some tourist attractions, food places, and so forth. If we fall in love will figure out more where to go. We're open to living anywhere as long as it has 4 season's, doesn't snow more than 30 inches a year, health care job's, and decent school system.

My question is always: if you've never been to NC, why are you considering relocating here? What about the state appeals to you, and what area (mountains, beaches, in between?).

Many suggest coming in July/August when the heat is the most brutal, because that will let you know if you will be able to tolerate the worst weather. But the nicest times are spring and fall.

Have you read this thread, that says "READ THIS FIRST"?

Specific questions and individual research are your friends. Nobody can answer a generic question like "where should I see in NC and when should I visit?"

I live hiking always wanted to camp explore the Blue Ridge Mountain's. Mostly the weather, job opportunities, lower taxes, school's are within the top 20 of the U.S., great area to raise a family, great place to be active hike/run/bike, and lower housing prices.

From research job's looking in make about $5 less an hour in SC. However, property and income taxes are much much better. Right now paying 5% and if over $50K 5.5% in income tax. Property tax is much much lower average about 30-50% rate on property up here. Jobs are rare up here and advanced degrees are less costly in NC.

Not to worried about the weather. Up here mid summer doesn't become a suffering dry heat just this 80 thick as soup muggy thunderstorm weather.

Also Raleigh seems to have a larger Buddhist and Metaphysical over Charlotte.

Charlotte however seems to have more options in Healthcare from research though.

You might want to recheck that one.

I mean public school's where I live can be a bit sketchy. Fiancé and I worked or been involved in the public school system here. Some are decent, but have to pay a premium with living. So if can find a school district in between within NC be the goal.

You can visit the Harricanes if they are still there.

To get there.

It's down the road a spell. Neither here or there. Might be in Wake County or in Granville County or in Franklin County. According to some, the center of the Harricanes was Pocomoke in western Franklin County. But according to others, the Harricanes sat right on the Granville/Wake County line.

Anyway you will know it when you see it.
