Glad I live in the city where you can't fire guns legally...and we have noise ordinances 24hrs a day.

I'm still not clear why you're sure that your neighbor was shooting at your dog. It would be more reasonable to assume that he was shooting at deer and rabbit, the same things that your dog is barking at.

My experience, as a former city gal, is that my scary neighbors with guns were really nice when we got to know them. One was target shooting with his daughters and the other was hunting deer. He brought us some venison sausage. None of them were bothered by my really annoying pack of barky dogs. Of course, they are far enough away so that the barking isn't all that loud and we don't let the dogs run free and bother their livestock.

I wouldn't assume that it was directed at you or your dog. I'll bet that hunting season started about the same time that Copper moved in.

Take an ad out in the Standard Laconic where I live in Snow Hill asking for a dog catcher or animal control officer and make the salary really good and perhaps you will get our animal control officer to go there. She is a real pain in the butt but I can tell you one thing, the next time the neighbor shoots at your son's dog will be his last. He will be in court under a felony indictment. She has done it for far less believe me.

Remember that gun and shooting restrictions are getting very strict even in places like NC or WV. Before bring the police in I would just go over and ask the man first if he's shooting your dog or has a probelm with you or the dog. We don't want another gun law or restriction.

Even though they got a new dog, they keep it inside now. We don't want trouble, and we don't want to harm your pets. But, if you won't be responsible for the actions of your pet, then get rid of it. If you don't, someone else will do it for you. After all, you may be surprised at how much cleaner and quieter your home is in addition to saving a ton on the cost of food and vet visits. This is by and far your fault. He's defending what should be his right to have peace and quiet in his home and yard. I applaud him and chastise you for not being more considerate. Shame on all of you for not being more understanding and polite. You have the right to keep a dog as a pet and we have the right not to hear them. If you really can't live without one, you can still be responsible and keep it quiet by putting a muzzle on it, a shock collar, or take full responsibility and have your vet de-bark it. It's a simple procedure that is no more invasive than getting it fixed.

Aren't hounds supposed to bark?

Debark a hunting dog?

Our Plott and Gray Hounds would never hear of that...

Come on over for dinner tonight...

Hey, I grew up just north of Salisbury.

W. E .L .C .O. M. E ... T. O ... R. O .W. A. N.... C O U N T Y......YAHOOOOOO!!!!

You got your story wrong.

First of all, if someone was shooting at your dog with a shotgun, the dog would be dead.

Shotguns spread the pattern and a chained up pooch is not a challenge for even a PBR swillin', East Rowan Redneck with his 12 gage.

Don't get me wrong, I never condone shooting a dog with a gun, but again, if he ain't dead, I don't think he was shot AT (in my best Rowan County preposition at end of sentence, English, by the way. Sorry I could not work the ubiquitous, IRREGARDLESS, in to the sentence for you. That would have been epic)
