They have no where else to go until Memorial stadium is rebuilt.

Charlotte already "reclaimed" the title (that honestly doesn't mean too much), back in the fall. Wells Fargo currently has a cap on growth from regulators that pulled SF back to 3rd. The gap is only $35 billion though. SunTrust/BB&T add around ~$440 billion though to CLT and solidifies it in 2nd.

This. And Matthews put in the money for a really nice complex to host State/Regional level tournaments. And that stadium is not just a soccer stadium, it can host football and Lacrosse events as well.

This is why throwing out lower level attendance numbers to justify a pro team is useless. Buffalo used to lead Triple A baseball in attendance every year, but that didn't mean they were getting a MLB expansion team.

This is why "market" and "infrastructure" are more important then anything. Show us an actual stadium with public support...Charlotte just spent hundreds of millions on theirs...and its privately owned. It owns Memorial Stadium as well and is trying to develop a plan for it. It is the soccer capital of the Carolina's and always will be. It is also the professional sports capital of the Carolina's. It is why many of the most famous people in the world will be in Charlotte next weekend for the NBA All Star game. It doesn't talk, it acts....even sometimes against those that don't truly get it. Which is why it looks like it does.

Where was Charlotte's MLS bid prior to Tepper? I remember it being pretty underwhelming. Many complained it didn't seem like there was much of an actual plan or pitch other then throwing their hat in the ring. Tepper changed that and momentum has built. And yeah Charlotte would be a good market for MLS imo but again, I just find it funny that now all of a sudden the narrative is Charlotte was the logical choice from the beginning. Since when does having two pro sports teams (of the big 4) make you the capital of pro sports as if another market in the same state who also has a pro team isnt fitting as well?? I guess the Triangle is the college sports capital of the state so therefore it's the only fitting place for all things college sports. That logic doesn't make any sense lol. Tepper was the X factor to put Charlotte, and NC for that matter, in a strong position to land an MLS team. Before that Charlotte barely had a realistic bid, and Raleigh put a good foot forward but plans were probably too ambitious for the first set of expansion teams.

Assuming that there's truth to the 30 year rumor, BofA Corporate Center broke ground on November 18, 1989; it was completed in 1992. A 100 story new tallest could break ground next year, and be completed by 2022 (exactly 30 years apart).

I have zero inside info. However, I do believe that Charlotte is ready for a 1,000 footer. By 2020, fifty 250ft structures will stand in uptown. By then, a 1,000 footer wouldn't look so isolated.

Maybe Suntrust/BB&T HQ was the rumored 1,000 footer? I could see an architect getting asked to do preliminary work on a 1,000 footer and assume that Bank of America was the only potential builder. Seems like this rumor faded pretty quickly and its been crickets ever since.

Then your opinions on the matter contradict.

Nope. Now there is an owner with a up to date downtown stadium in them mix, which is light years ahead of Raleigh's.

Can you please tell us where Charlotte ranks in terms of youth soccer programs? If you know anything about soccer, then you should know this is important. Rest assured it is nowhere near Raleigh's/Triangle's programs, which are FAR AHEAD of Charlotte's in the rankings. You have many reasons to be proud of Charlotte, but soccer is not one of them. Until Charlotte gets an MLS team, this type of conversations will ALWAYS depend of attendance and history. CASL and NC FC are programs that existed for a very long time and Charlotte cannot compete in those terms. If you get an MLS team I promise to celebrate with you, but until then try not to create false perceptions.

By the way, a Downtown/Uptown stadium without a team means nothing. When Tepper puts together a winning bid and the MLS decision makers respond positively, then you will have reasons to celebrate. Until then, try to maintain a down to Earth attitude.
