We've got a terrible gang problem here in rural coastal Eastern NC...darn gangs keep inviting us to potlucks, drop off a mess of freshly caught fish, and if you don't watch yourself, they'll load you up with fresh collards or other such hard stuff.

Gotta watch your back all the time. Don't come, you'll hate it. These gangs make you fat.

When we moved from MI I was so sure that these gang members I kept hearing about were right down the street. Guess what, they are not! Now we do have them, just like most cities but the police are taking them seriously too.
I lived in a suburb of GR, MI and to hear our news up there we were all being robbed, murdered, attacked etc. Not in my little suburb, it was an inner city thing.
I have heard recently that hispanic gangs are in the country, but I think they lay low. In other words don't let gang activity control where you move to, just be smart about your location.

Know what you mean about the crime stats. We were concerned before we made the move, but as other posters have said, "it is kind of a mystery to me". We are east of Asheville but have many friends in North Asheville. Quite frankly I have never seen a "gang" hanging out.

Default Gang activity in Raleigh NC

Thanks to everyone who replied. Sounds like what I expected. I'm going to be in Knightdale in a few weeks and would like to look around Raleigh, Wake county area. Any suggestions on what I should check out while I'm down there.
