We are thinking of moving to the mountains in North Carolina. My husband is retired from the local fire department here. We were wondering if his retirement pay would be state taxed in North Carolina.

Les,
I Live In Md And Expect To Move To NC In A Few Months. My Retire-
Ment Is State Taxed In Md And From All The Paperwork That I've Read It Will Also Be State Taxed In NC. It Looks Like The Only
Savings That I'll Realize When I Move Will Be On Housing. NC State Tax Is Higher And Food Items Are Not Taxed In Md But They Are In NC. I Had Hoped To Save A Lot Of Money With This Move But Now
It Does Not Appear That I Will Be Saving Much.

Of Course, I Could Give Up Eating. LOL
Maybe I Can Just Eat Every Other Day.

Some Federal, State and Local government pensions are exempt from the state's income tax.
