This latest report was issued by the NC State Bureau of Investigation for the 2005 data year. Table #6 is the crime rates per 100,000 broken down by county. Keep in mind that the overall state average for violent crimes is 478.1 when checking to see if your county is above or below the state average.

Thanks for the link....very interesting to say the least. Even though our county is well below the State average, the violent crime rate more than doubled in this period...

I hate to point to the obvious but some of the crime is from the locals not those of us moving in

I agree, I think that transplants would generally have a positive effect on crime.

Thanks for mentioning that.

Madison County Sheriff John Ledford said he believes the figures might be wrong. He said his department will review the data it supplied to the state “and make sure that we have an accurate calculation of what the crime rate is.”

“It seems like the figures are skewed,” Ledford said.

Thank you for posting that link. Very helpful.

Am I reading correctly that crime has gone down in the last ten years? I'm looking at the information on the last page, so if I'm misreading it (haven't had a lot of sleep lately), please let me know. Thanks!
