Not sure on the cost, but there is a great "cheaqt sheet" that sunnykayak posted on the newcomers guide to charlotte
The cost of my license was $32.00. its good for 8 years. getting the car registered was another story altogether . They will accept checks and cash only. Check must be from a NC bank, not sure what other isssues there were with using a check, safe to bring the cash. Hope this helps.

Carolynpt we never even saw the book. We used the cheat sheet and aced it. For each of us there was a question that wasn't in that sheet. Anyone who studied the manual really wasted their time.

Yes the cost is $32.00. My husband paid that amount, however, both of my neighbors said they had to pay that in addition to a $5 fee that had to be paid in cash? My husband did not have to pay the $5 cash fee so I'm not sure what my neighbors were being charged for???
