Look at test scores etc for Pitt Cty schools, look at the individual schools & you'll see what I am talking about. Winterville is also Pitt cty-also broaden your search by adding addl miles to it. Maybe you will feel differently than I-doubt it though I think the high school drop out rate in this area is around 64% or close to it) I have found the teachers in my son's school to be very indifferent, and trying to communicate with them has been challenging at best. Though I imagine they are underpaid. good luck keep us posted.pm me if you like.
I spent 7 years in Greenville but grew up in Suburban Detorit. I was always mystified, that a state with such a great university system, could have such poor public schools. It just always seemed to me that the "culture" in general didn't value education and that was evident in the local schools.

Honestly, we just moved from the area (hey! Our house is for sale still!!), living outside Bailey and working in Nashville and Wilson. If I stuck around, I would've either gotten my kids in Nashville schools (not on the direct path to Greenville though), or private school in Wilson (Greenfield Academy? I think that's the name). Still not the best area to raise the kids though. Want more specifics? (we moved to PA and are THRILLED) Just let us know...

My wife and I recently went to Philly for a weekend.

I grew up in Suburban Detroit, but my Dad's business was in Ann Arbor. State College sounds like a smaller version of Ann Arbor. Sounds great!

I lived in Greenville and just outside of Winterville on Hwy 903 back in the 90s.
How much has Winterville changed?

If you haven't been here since the late 90s you would be surprised. Tons of home building since then and lots of retail too. The core of Winterville (downtown) hasn't changed a bit (kinda depressing still) but around the edges has seen phenominal growth. Old Tar, Allen and other roads have really grown up.
