Is there anything around the area that sells old or collectible items. Not antique stores but kind of a variety store with all kinds of this and that? Kind of like the stuff you see on Pickers or Pawn Stars?

I like that type of store too. Where is Smipson in relation to Wilkes-Barre?
Any other recommendations? I like to find stores that fall between out and out Junk Shops and Antique Shops ( code word for over priced)

I have done well at Voulteers of America, finding a circa 1956 set of copper and enamel Ransburg canisters for twelve bucks (looked them up on like and let's just sat I got an extremely good deal) an almost complete set of pink Taylor Smith china, and some sage green Fiesta Wear.
Salvation Army is also good, but a bit pricier.

beckycat - what type of this and that do you collect?

I think that I may have seen some shops along these lines in Luzerne, while shopping at a health food store. I didn't have time to check them out though.

Hit our yard and garage sales. You never know what you are going to stumble into. My wife and I feel like American Pickers every time we go to one of these.

You also might want to check out the auction circuit. Possibly somebody can let you in on a good auction? They are usually listed in your local paper.

Don't think you'll find any antiques, and it's a bit of a drive from NEPA, but not a bad one... Last time I went was around 2008, so call first to make sure they're open... but I give you...

I'm not sure what kinds of collectible items you like, but I was just in Honesdale, and they turned the old McCrory's into a huge, and I mean huge, antiques/collectibles place. My friend and I browsed in there for a long time. There was so much weird stuff - not the usual dishes. Old microscopes, strange lamps, Buddhas... It was a lot of fun.

There is a very nice shop on Main Street in Plymouth that has a ton of cool old items. Ranging from antiques to kitschy stuff.

Check out Jim Thorpe too. They have a plethora of second hand shops.

Always wanted to get into that shop in Plymouth! Seems I am always their days off.
