And I do too! Very good points! The area IS really convenient to both bucolic beauty and a metropolitan feel.

Don't jump on me for saying that! No, it's not LA, NY or Philly. But it's a lot more diverse and sophisticated than Long Island.

The crime rate IS amazingly low when compared to similar sized cities.

Wonderful post!

I won't restate the stuff above in this thread. I will say there are many good thoughts and that I agree with most of it.

I have lived in some pretty nice places, visited, stayed in, and traveled to many more. Most have some nice features too. Few are 'perfect'. Counting the total package, for me, NEPA is pretty good. I am not looking to move again right now, and maybe never will be.

BUT it is important, and not easy to be gainfully employed, or have the means to not need to be. People who come here underestimating this in today's economy take a big risk.

Oh, and Lake Scranton is a great place to walk or run....I'm surprised Steel City didn't mention it (or maybe I missed it).

Good post Jimazee! You know in today's economy living almost everywhere is a risk.

NEPA is a place where home ownership is really not out of reach.

Jobs are there but people need to look to the fields that are growing in the area, not the ones that aren't.

Where ever you live, right out of college, before they land a real job, 9-11$ is about normal. Depressing but normal.

In my old area, that was the going rate. A three room apartment? Try $1000 per month.
$800 for a basement or a dump.

Living here is MUCH easier - especially in these times.

The inexpensive price of real estate offers some interesting opportunities that would be very out of reach for people in places such as NJ or NY. You can buy a commercial building with an intact business and several apartments for under $100 grand!

That's a small business. Especially when your mortgage in way under one thousand a month!

Interesting.... I grew up in NEPA. Was born in Kingston and lived 37 years in & around the valley.

Lived in pittsburgh now for the past 22 years, and SteelCityRising is posting NEPA highlights. Small world, heyna?

I'm multilingual since I speak both heynabonics & pittsburghese!
