Weluvpa, I have to disagree. Take a walk downtown during any first Friday event or a movie on the courthouse green. There is a downtown after 4:30.

That's once or twice a month. What about the rest of the month?

I've lived in the Scranton area for most of my life and work downtown. There is more activity after work than ever. There are more U of S students venturing downtown along with the aforementioned locals.

I still feel safer walking the streets of NYC after 9PM than I do the streets of downtown Scranton.

Personally, I've never felt unsafe walking downtown.

Absolutely agree! Every time we visit family in NYC, my husband and I go for a walk at night to Starbucks or a bodega, and never have issues. I never felt unsafe. I feel unsafe here at night, and its not because of all the New Yorkers & New Jerseyans moving in. I'm always looking out for the "meth face" people looking to rob someone for a fix. I also never felt the need to buy a gun until I moved up here.

Stay tuned folks...soon enough we will get the post claiming sightings of the un-dead roaming the streets at night sucking the soul from infants in their strollers as mothers watch in horror. Better stock up on garlic cloves and silver bullets..........

I don't feel unsafe downtown at night, one because I don't have an iphone, and two, nobody is ever down there after dark.

Downtown is DEAD after 4:30pm every weeknight and a ghost town on weekends.

People going to the bars to get drunk don't count.

There isn't much to do in Scranton except to go bar hopping. There's more to life than that.
