any one attending any of these schools? or know about the policies and/or social life or lack there of? programs in nutrition?

especially interested in the "dry campus" policy at marywood. never heard of this and wondering if it will encourage kids to go off campus to party?

and if anyone knows how it is enforced and what the penalties are? trying to be a realistic parent and have to believe that most of the kids will want to do some partying the first three years (before they are 21). any insight?

Seton Hall is surrounded by 8ft wrought iron fences and smack in the middle of South Orange NJ. Which is not the greatest neighborhood in the state, the fence is there for a reason. I also wouldn't even consider Marywood a party school so I'm not sure that its a issue to begin with. I do not think that I have ever heard of a Marywood party being busted ever!

thanks. i was actually asking about seton hill, not be be confused with seton hall, in pennsylvania.

as to the parties not being busted in marywood, do you mean there just aren't any? are the campus security overly strict? I am not looking to encourage it, but am worried that being overly restrictive is sometimes worse.

I think he meant that Marywood just doesn't have much in the way of a party scene. Its a pretty conservative school in an upper-class residential part of town that wouldn't take too kindly to Animal House-like behavior.

The University of Scranton is another story...definitely more of a puking and fighting in the streets kind of school, and in more of a sketchy part of town made up of mainly run-down student housing and section 8 rentals. Marywood's students tend to either live in the dorms or commute from throughout the local area.

I attended the University of Scranton & SUNY-Binghamton, and now live near Mansfield Univ. As an alum, I can definitely vouch for the U of S being as described by the previous poster although the neighborhood has been vastly cleaned up since I was a student. It's seriously night and day. Marywood was very quiet from what I remember...in fact those who were interested in partying tended to find there way to the U of S parties.

Mansfield is also a dry campus, as are all state schools in PA but I know there is still a lot of drinking in the dorms that goes on. The policies just keep it more controlled/limited. There is an off campus party scene, but I dont find it excessive or overly Animal House-like. Many of the students at MU are local, even those that live on-campus. I guess you could say there is partying that would be acceptable to a realistic parent, but nothing like the street brawls, public puking/urinating, etc that you see going on around the U of S or Lewisburg/State College.

University of Scranton ; I hope I am right, its a jesuit school. Just from what I heard ; and I have good, really good sources.
Two years ago i knew someone who went there. It was party, drug central. The teachers advised his parents to take him out asap. This was after not even one year. The person I knew had to attend a rehab place for about a year.

Just my info but it comes from a reliable inside person

I went to the U of S. It is what you make of it. It has a 99% placement into med schools. It has one of the highest acceptance rates into graduate school. Their MBA program is one of the best in the country. I went to school with a lot of very intelligent people. They worked hard and played hard. End of the day most are doing well, of course there are a few who fail.

I knew guys and gals who got away from home for the first time and went nuts, it happens at every school. Every School in the country has drugs at it. Best frined goes to Yale and said their is more of a drug problem their than any where he has seen.

The U of S is definitely a good school, although it is definitely the party school of Scranton when compared to Marywood.

Personally, unless there's some specialized degree that you need to go to a private school to get, I think private colleges are a waste of money when you can get just as good of an education at a state school.

What the? Is this thread seriously for real? You people have to be joking! I went to the U as well as Marywood and let me tell you something. If I wanted pot at Marywood, I got pot. If I wanted pills and coke at the U, then I got pills and coke. It's ALL over!! While there isn't a big party atmosphere ON Marywoods Campus, or the U's either that means absolutely nothing. Go stand in front of City Slice at 2am on any given weekend night between September and May and you'll see what's what. Marywood just isn't as centralized! The parties are ALL OVER THE DAMN place! You've got to be kidding me. And Dorothy, I'm sure you're "sources" moronic kid would have been tossed in rehab regardless of where he landed!

Joe
I dont know if he would have landed in rehab no matter where he was. But when a teacher advises a students parents to get the child out of that school before a bust is about to go down, you know there are problems.
