Expect property taxes to skyrocket as the government grows and politicians keep catering to public unions. Pretty soon, PA taxes will match or exceed that of our neighbors to the east.

Being comfortable that you'll not be affected by things you'd dislike... that may happen in the future.

The prediction above being a small example.

Oh, okay. I thought you were trying to say that old people wouldn't have to pay taxes. But then, if we're dead, we won't, will we? Pay taxes, that is.

For as long as I've lived and as many changes I've seen, I'm not sure the changes that may (or may not) come would be worth hanging on for.

Thanks for clarifying, jimazee.

Ya know, now that you mention it, IIRC PA has a pretty high estate tax, so if ya want to leave something to someone eligible to be affected by it (it is graduated based on the relationship to you as I recall), maybe move to Floreeda...sorta like all those folks on state pensions.

I'm not worried about estate tax; I'm taking it with me. And if I can't take it with me, I'm not going! And Floreeda is out of the question. Everything worth anything to me is in PA.

PA is cheaper than NJ/NY (usually) in property taxes, but it's still high, especially if you consider your return on those taxes paid. What do you get? Beat roads? Unmaintained parks? Non-existent signage? Aging highway infrastructure?

That said, PA has better retirement perks than many other states, so you have to weight that when you're deciding.
