You're forgetting you're in the land of the "Highway to Hell." You're in a place where people will see an otherwise perfectly groomed front lawn and point out its lone dandelion. You're in a place where people will enjoy an otherwise beautiful Spring day and point out the lone fluffy cloud. You're in a place where people will admire your new car and then point out that it doesn't come standard with a power moonroof. You get the idea.

Thats your choice and again Paul I was responding to you bringing me into a conversation that basically involved Mr. Krabs, cgraz1187 and yourself. I didn't ask you to debate me nor did I post in the thread until you had no choice but to reference me and what have to say. I'm your catalyist I guess. You just can't talk about anything Scranton without bringing me in to help bolster your cheerleading.

Bottom line here is that you regurgitate stats and web facts well but you have no real world experience in how they affect families or households, jobs and lives. Lets not forget that you do live in Pittston, don't you?

This thread was about the parade and I'm going to let it go back to it.

Don't reply for I will not respond, let the thread go back to what it was, walk away from the post Paul.

Nowhere will be. I've noted this before before, as have many others here, that Paul and Dan are at polar opposites of each other when it comes to Scranton. Neither viewpoint is as beneficial as they believe it to be, because neither can seperate themselves from their unreasonable biases to see a realistic picture.

Threads really need to be locked once politics begins to get dragged into it. Especially Scranton politics. "Bloodsport" that some think it is , it really does not have to be included in every discussion.

Actually I didn't bring politics into this, I was talking about the reality of taxes and household expenses. Items that regardless of our differences are a shared and common reality. A reality that Paul is out of touch with.

Obviously the parade went by without any problems this year. The city had its inspectors working in the hill with house parties. The state police were here to curb underage drinking along with any other county, state and federal law enforcement agencies that attended like the secret service.

The city was on lock down and everything was fine, so lets hope that the city and the county can at least try to do the same next year when we won't have Hillary here to put a show on for.

I think putting increased pressure in the hill helped to keep the U factor to a low roar this year.

It seems like everything comes back to politics and what is wrong with Scranton in these threads. It's just the way it is. The city doesn't cheerleading. It is what it is and will never be anything more. Some people like it like that. It's what makes Scranton, Scranton, it's very character. You can't change that. It's a case of you either love it or hate it. And I think that people who live here and pay taxes have every right to complain if their government is inept or if the potholes in the roads are as a big as the Archbald Pothole. We've earned the right. It may not do any good, but it's our right to vent. It seems to me Scranton has survived all these years and will continue to do so. So, accept it for what it is.

As promised my friend Meg and I were in attendance at today's St. Patrick's Day Parade in Downtown Scranton, and we enjoyed ourselves immensely. She and I parked at the Steamtown Mall garage at around 9:45 AM and then headed outside so Meg could grab a cup of coffee at Northern Lights on Spruce Street. From there we sauntered around town a bit and decided to be devious---even though we're not die-hard Obama supporters we both graciously accepted stickers and large signs supporting the candidate merely to irk the rest of the city, which seemingly 95% favored Clinton. About 10:45 she and I both grabbed Long Island Iced Teas at Martini Grille, also on Spruce Street, for the hefty sum of $15! ($7 per drink + $1 tip).

From there we headed back towards the Steamtown Mall, where we staked out a spot across the street from the Southern Union Building. I quickly caught the eye of an adjacent Clinton supporter, and to my surprise he and I engaged in a cordial conversation for the entire duration of the parade. The man lived in Forty Fort and frequented the business that I work at. He also works at the Glenmaura Country Club. We chatted back and forth about various issues ranging from the economy to Luzerne County politics to technology, and we kept on conversing until Hillary Clinton passed by, at which point he ran off to try to get a closer look. A couple with two young boys was also nearby, and the kids had a ball talking to me about board games, video games, candy, and typical "kid" stuff, but what especially moved me was when Scranton's finest walked by in procession and one of them said "I wanna be just like them someday." It truly was a day in Mayberry, contrary to what all of the "Doomers" on this forum will try to tell you.

The day was wonderful. The weather during the parade could have stood to be a bit brighter and perhaps five degrees warmer, but it was a far cry from how we froze last year. I hope everyone enjoys the photos I took of the parade or at least enjoyed the parade either in person or on television today. There's another parade tomorrow in Downtown Wilkes-Barre, even though it is MUCH smaller in comparison. It is estimated that well over 100,000 people were in Downtown Scranton, which just barely dwarfs the population of Center City Philadelphia! This is now officially the second-largest St. Patrick's Day Parade in the nation! Scranton's back on the map!

[mod]I removed the pictures from the quote, there is no point in posting them again here[/mod]

I hope you all enjoyed my photos as much as I enjoyed the parade! Y'all have to experience all of the wonderful festivals, parades, events, etc. that Scranton has to offer sometime.

3/18/2008Thanks for the great shots of Scranton's St Patrick's Day Parade 2008. The band you saw with the POW flag is the Hawthorne Caballeros, a DCA Drum an Bugle Corp. They return every August for the Parade of Champions. at Memorial Stadium since the 60's The Cab's have repeatedly won World Championship honors @ the DCA World Championship Competition on Labor Day Weekend. Until 2 years ago, it was an annual event is Scranton. Gino Merli chaired the event for the American Legion. If you want to see them @DCAWC next Labor Day, it will be in Rochester, N.Y.

Parade, not Politics. I know it might be confusing at times, but staying on topic is really not that hard. Just try, please.
Yac.
