LOL River Road has been paved as long as I've been around these parts! They do close it in the National Park when it snows and during frog mating season, but it's paved.

LOL!! Wonder how many people are scratching their heads at the
road closing during frog mating season. Only in NEPA.

In my days we would collect them and give them little tiny wheelchairs! I love frog legs!

I tried to convince her that there was nothing wrong with modular construction but she love our custom house in the Poconos. Also the commute to Perry County in the winter could get rough with the mountain to climb.

I liked living in Carlisle. There are also many nice little commutes surround Carlisle like Boiling Springs and Mount Holly Springs. I had joined a hunting and fishing club and would shoot skeet a few times each week as well as play with their fish in their pond. Carlisle is close enough to Harrisburg if you would have medical needs or for major shopping. Carlisle itself is the trucking capitol of PA, there are many trucks, but only on the northeast side of the town and on the interstate and Turnpike.

Thankyou,
I had stumbled upon South Middleton and noticed that the taxes are quite cheaper.
Boiling Springs sounds interesting. Thanks again.

Thankyou ,
I found Carlisle to be a very pleasant town.

On the southeastern side of Boiling Springs there is a lake called the Children's Lake. The State would stock it heavy with fish and the children would get a slight head start on the older fishermen (if I remember correctly). It was a nice lake to just walk around. I remember times where the kids did better than their parents at catching the prized golden trout that our State would stock. Kids would try anything where us 'pros' would stick with our tried and proven baits. The little town is also close to Carlisle for shopping or medical services.

Carlisle has changed since I worked out of it. When I was there most of the trucking was located in Middlesex on the northeastern side of the town. Now, looking at Google Earth, it looks like a lot of new trucking has moved into the eastern/southeastern side of the town. But that trucking would not go through the center of town. Carlisle had an active retirement community as well as a hospital and Dickenson College. It also had the Military War College. I miss some of the food that I would find in Carlisle.

There are many nice small cities in that whole area. It might be worth vacationing in the area and checking it out. In general I felt that these communities were well maintained and that the residents cared about their communities.

Is it the neighbors, the beauty, the calmness,
the family involvement, the church or
all of the above and so much more?
Would appreciate if you took the time to let me know about this wonderful place you call home.
It takes a while, for me, to find a church I'm comfortable with, and depending on how active you want to be in a church, you have to learn to say "NO". LOL

I love PA for a lot of reasons, the seasonal changes, how close you are to NYC, DE, NJ, OH, VA, etc..., there are so so many Wonderful, sights to see, just in PA....Northern PA is beautiful as well as Western PA...if you like the country and vast state forests....camping was always a love...we used to go up near the Grande Canyon PA and Down the shore. There are so many waterways, near and far if you love fishing as I do...
and then there is always the antique stores, far and wide. Philly is a great place to visit, with many sight seeing opportunities, as well as music, plays, etc...There are many historical tours in Philly, one of my favorites was the Eastern State Prison, where Al Capone once lived....lol
https://www.easternstate.org/
It's a must see, as well as Potter County, Coudersport, Potato City, Erie PA, the Great Lakes area, Lake Ontario, Pittsburg, and not far is Falling Waters, which is a fantastic tour.

Gettsburg, where you could spend a few days, Harrisburg, where they hold the State Farm Show...

There is just so very much to do, and places to go, plus the weather here in PA is not nearly as dangerous as some other areas, when you consider fewer hurricane hits, and other catastrophic weather disasters...here your pretty safe. Your close to the shore, and to the Outer Banks, if you love the Ocean and Ocean fishing....then you also have the Delaware River, etc.

They have developed the Water Front in Philly into a beautiful tourist attraction....used to love to take the R5 train there, and spend the day, tons to do. Market Street East...is fun to walk around....

PA is a pretty diverse state....so....Hope I've been some help.

Lancaster in PA is a beautiful drive, OMGosh I could go on and on...there is just so much to do.

Used to enjoy driving into NYC, and spending the day or a weekend, seeing the wonderful shows.

Loved to drive to Cape May and take the Cape May Ferry over to Rohobeth Beach which is like walking back in the 60's.

There are many wonderful times to be had in the Poconos...

The list just goes on and on....

Of course we also have Blue Ball!

We used to love to shop in Intercourse for furniture: https://www.peacefulvalleyfurniture.com/. There is another store or two in that little town.
