This is my first post and I have more anxiety about this possible move to Wilkes-Barre from NYC than I can endure anymore. SO- here goes:
I want to leave New York City after living there almost a full 50 years, as it has become unattainable as a place to live unless you are a billionaire. It is not the city I used to love, I have lived here almost my whole life of 50 years. In 2010 the housing crisis hit me as my rent was raised and I was pushed out. I have medical issues and didn't want to up and deal with all the bureaucracy that was waiting for me if I moved and thought Id found a situation I could live with in the city, but its just been a miserable last few years. So now I have an option of moving to Wyoming. I had been there 2 summers ago for 6 months and fell in love with the mountains and the night sky but ended up going back to NYC for the medical centers I needed. Now though I need to reach out and ask the fallowing as I need to move asap in order to simply be happy- Give me nature a pet and a piano and Im good. However Im on SSI AND on a methadone program; I used to be a drug counselor and am used to the ease of finding programs and treatment centers. Leaving a big city for Wilkes Barre is intense so Im gonna do a quick bullet list of my biggest issues and would appreciate any feedback.
-1 Is there good health care available in the are?
2- Are there methadone clinics in the area?
3-Does anyone know how the quality of any clinics are or work in one?e?
4- I have a medical pot card- has PA implemented legal medical pot "stores"yet?
5- If anyone has made a move like this - from a major city too NEPA with medical issues or/and is familiar with opiod treatment in the area, would you share the experience with me?
Im at that point in my life where all I need is -sanity; music; pets; and nature, Yep- I'm ready to be that cat lady with a piano for the rest of my life.
The above is a simple summary of what has been hell for the last 10 years, If I know the issues I listed can be dealt with simply than I really would leave asap.
TIME FOR A CHANGE!

You say that you are 50 years old. What type of medical insurance do you have?

Geisinger is great healthcare if you can get coverage and they just a opened a Mariuana dispensary in Scranton with plans to put one in Wilkes Barre at some point soon. Clearbrook up in Laurel Run has a family program on weekends for substance addicitions as well as 28 day inpatient if you need more acute care. But I would be remiss to not mention the obvious risks of coming to more rural area. Do you have a car? Mass transit is not very good here. If you need housing assistance it will likely be in Sherman Hills which is far from a nature setting. Without a car even shopping will be a challenge. If you need to go to Sherman Hills you will feel like you never left New York. it sounds like you have some permanent damage from drug use? I'm not sure what kind of programs are available but again, if your benefits cover getting insurance you would want to look into Geisinger as your plan and I am sure they will have a clinic. Chances are though, the clinic will be on East Mountain Boulevard up in Bear Creek which is in no certain terms within walking distance of Sherman Hills.

She admits to being on methadone so must have some really pressing medical issues....and in that type of situation moving out here will not be the most wisest of decisions with those conditions.....

I suspect that the OP is on New York State Medicaid. PA is just a little less generous than New York but PA does provide more than adequate services. Also bear in mind that PA taxpayers fund 40%+ of Medicaid.

Agreed!! But NYC has far more services available compared to Wilkes-Barre and in closer proximity. They have far more modes of transportation also than WB has.
