Can anyone recommend a good housing/apt. bldg or community, somewhere in NEPA where families can live safely? perhaps a gated community (other than the Hideout...yuck) Something affordable even for a single individual.

Appreciate your words of experience and advice. Thank you.

The Masthope community in Lackawaxen is a beautiful place to live. Safe, friendly and lots to do. We will be moving there ourselves in the next year.

Perhaps you should state what you don't like about The Hideout, but still feel that you might want to live in a gated community. The Hideout has everything you could possibly want so maybe you should state a few more details.

Kosita,

Yes, that's it. There is also another community called Fawn Lake. That is nice too.

I just looked at Masthopes website and they have great amenities. Their fee per year is 1457.00. Which is slightly more than the Hideout. I guess its all in what you want. All amenities in any community will go up, sometimes it will go up every year and sometimes every few years. Hemlock farms amenities went from about $1200 to about $1800. Thats a big jump but I dont think their fees went up for about 4 years. You have to realize that any private community is going to raise their fees every year. Good luck.

We have a pretty safe comunity in Sayre PA on the borderline of NY. Modest living rents around $600.00 ave. and homes in the $60,000 range. Higher range pay for higher educated people in the Packer Hospital, the main employer and Mills Pride second employer.

That is exactly what I do not like - the gated community. I know it provides security from outside, but the truth is I do not want to feel very closed once inside either. I see the houses from far when driving around and they look old and very close to one another.

I know there are communities out there that look like the houses have a certain distance from one another and looks more like a housing community or estate than just a look-a-like resort with old run-down homes like the Hideout who I hear charges so much for almost everything. It is too much for a small family (no kids) or a single person even...
