I am looking for information about the impact that the Walmart SuperCenter in Tamaqua had on small businesses in the area, if any.

Well I live in Hometown where the Walmart is and as far as I know nothing closed "overnight" after Walmart opened, though the Agosti's grocery store in Hometown is phasing itself out (half bare shelves) but that is after almost 2 years now. The hardware store in Tamaqua expanded when people thought that would get killed by Walmart.. Boyers in Tamaqua is still there along with Flamini's pharmacy in Hometown.

In terms of really small businesses in Tamaqua I can't be sure but the Walmart didn't have that "devastating" effect everyone kept going on about. It did bring in a rash of shoplifters like any big store would.
