It's fine by me to have goofy personalities. I used to get a real kick out of some of the wackier reporters they had back in Los Angeles.

But I dislike reporters who go on and on and on and on. Every day the DC metro area has hundreds of things going on, and I want to hear about more of them!

As long as I'm going to spend a moment ranting, what I particularly resent is that they rarely report news from the towns outside the beltway, even though most of the growth right now is happening in the areas they ignore (Western Fairfax, Stafford, Loudoun, etc.). And why don't they ever get to the stories I'd like to hear? Because Pat Collins can't wrap up his overly dramatic sob stories more quickly. OK, rant over. I guess he's amusing but he's not my cup of tea.

Used to be Jim Vance but I've been boycotting NBC since they stabbed Conan in the back so no more Jim Vance. Now it's Pamela Brown from TBD, my God what a GODDESS!!

I've also noticed that many of the stations favor the Maryland suburbs, which I'll never understand since more people live in the Virginia suburbs. Then again I did just see a thread on the DC forum in which someone's parents wouldn't consider Arlington because it was "too far from DC" but were looking into Bethesda, which doesn't even border it. Apparently the Potomac River has become the Rio Grande.

You must be speaking of the Saturday night Fox 5 anchor. I can definitely see how you would feel the two of you would be compatible on a basic level.

FWIW, I think ABC7 favors NOVA coverage. The fact that the station is located in Rosslyn may play at least a small role in that.

Didn't you hear? Robby Chavez took advantage of the new same sex marriage laws and got himself married. He's unavailable!

I think you're onto something. I've long suspected the stations mostly try to run stories within a 5-mile radius of their station, wherever it happens to be (or, within a mile or so of where the reporters live). It's probably a budget cutting move. They save money on gas, etc.

And, in the same vein, I suppose Pat Collins isn't the one to blame. He's probably just following orders. I'll bet the station manager told him to stretch his stories out so they don't have to spend the money that would be involved if they actually covered ALL the news.

I am a liberal through and through - but I actually like the Fox 5 Morning people more than any others. And I understand that the weather guy (Tony Perkins) lives really close to me. My hubby saw him at the Jerry's around the corner.

I don't watch the local stations the rest of the day - I only have enough time in the morning to turn on the morning show, catch the weather and big stories and go about my day.

I also used to like the really old guy on NewsChannel 8 who did the traffic reports. I don't recall his name, but I miss him. The newer people aren't nearly as funny, or as informative.
I haven't watched local news in years, but I like the red haired weather man on channel 4.

You probably weren't here then, but Jim Vance was a coke head back in the 1970's and something of a radical, complete with Afro and diamond earring. He got sober, in more ways that one!
