I might/will/probably be working at Green Line - Navy Yard. I am looking for an apartment in Alexandria, VA. I am looking for a safe area and easy access to the Yellow Line stations, especially Huntington.

I moved from Alexandria six months ago. The only ones on that list I would give any further consideration to are Brookdale, Stoneridge, Foxchase, and Riverside. Riverside is the closest to Huntington so that would be the best value in my opinion.

Are all four apartments you recommend have easy access (through bus) to the Yellow Line Stations?

I used to live at Riverside.. it's ok. A place to sleep and store your stuff, basically. No terrible riff-raff or crime or anything like that, in spite of being in the questionable Huntington neighborhood. If you can brave getting yourself across Rt. 1/Richmond Hwy. on foot or bike, there's a (long) path to the south end of Old Town. There's a free shuttle to the Huntington Metro station, but it only runs at standard commuting times in the morning and early evening. A Fairfax Connector bus goes by pretty often if you have to get to the Metro between the shuttle times and don't want to walk (or bike), for some reason. The Huntington neighborhood has absolutely nothing worthwhile in it except a couple restaurants (a Tippy's Tacos and a Bosnian place) on King's Hwy., and I wouldn't recommend walking down Huntington Ave. to the Metro station after dark (during the day it's not so bad.. maybe a 15 min. walk through a semi-sketchy-looking area).

As Alanboy mentioned, it's a good value considering the amount of square footage you get for the money so close to Old Town and the Metro. My SO and I had a bunch of inherited furniture to store, so it more-or-less worked for us.. we rented the largest unit available (a pretty big 2-bedroom) and it still resembled a furniture store.

How many stories is Riverside? How do you get the furnitures upstairs? Elevator big enough?

Foxchase offers a free shuttle to the metro (King Street? Van Dorn? I'm not sure which). The apartments are older and smaller, but they're in a convenient area.

One bedroom apartment is either 460 or 580 sq. feet. 580 is very small. 460? That's smaller than efficiency.

Yeah, they're tiny. They're also significantly cheaper than anything else in the area...depends on what your priorities are.

Well, I want to have enough space for a small desk and a TV larger than 20 inch. With 460 square fee, that's pushing it.

I lived in Foxchase many, many moons ago and had a "jr 1 bdrm" which was approx 700 sq ft. The two bedrooms there are actually quite nice since they're 2 stories. It was convenient to the shopping center on Duke - could walk to the grocery store, drug store and grab something to eat since I was very close to Duke street. There was a bus that went to the Pentagon that was in the subdivision, but I found it more convenient to hop on the bus that stopped on Duke in front of the shopping center. My car however was stolen twice while living there. Come to find out, Alexandria tops the list of car thefts for this area.

I didn't look at the map, but I though Parliament apts was located in Annandale.... not convenient to the metro
