Are you really trying to argue that Fairfax and Loudoun are crime-ridden poo-holes?

I didn't realize Northern Virginia is considered a city?

I've never seen any blatant MS-13 members around here or their tags. I'm not really looking for them either though. I live in Woodbridge and there are a large population of Hispanics in the area. Can some of them be MS-13? Maybe. Have they caused me or anyone I know any harm or trouble? No.

I wanted to look it up first, but I'm almost positive that it's a felony to spray gang tags. This not only discourages them, but it also keeps members behind bars, esp who have committed other crimes.

I'm not a big booster, but, really, the cops have done a stellar job in this area. The goons are still there, though, selling drugs to your kids or their friends among other crimes.

You might be surprised how many live near you and you'd never know it. Times are a changing even for gang members. They are starting to learn that dressing like a gang member may not be the smartest move considering the enforcement actions being taken by local LE. We have a very strong gang unit task force in the NOVA area and these gang members know it. Fortunately the crimes being committed by these gang members are being committed against other gangs and not the general public. But please don't believe for a minute that they won't mess you or a family member up if you cross one the wrong way. That said. Gang members can live in Woodbridge but also in places like Mclean, Vienna and places normally looked at as being the "Nicer" places. I was involved in the arrest of a gang member a few years ago in a million dollar home in a very nice neighborhood. This man was a convicted murderer.

Oh my head is not in the sand and that's why I have a CHP in case SHTF. You never know when crime will strike so it's good to be prepared with the means and the mindset.

Also, with Section 8 housing replacing project-style housing, a lot of crime is more spread out and difficult to track. Goes along with the idea that you can't just designate a part of town as "safe," especially with more people interested in renting out to Section 8 tenants due to the housing market.

I guess nowhere is safe, and I need to move from Vienna and move back to South Arlington. Can someone convince my wife of this?

The word is "correlation," but I'm specifically talking about Section 8, or Housing Choice Vouchers, which is its new name. It's a program that expects permanent dependency. It takes intergenerational poverty out of
projects and into your eight-year-old kid's life.

My comments were due to police accounts about how crime has shifted as a result of Section 8 and how enforcement has become more difficult. It has also made the delivery of services to these lower income people more difficult.
