I'm looking to hear experiences or direct knowledge about the French immersion experiences at these two schools.

Is one better than the other? Which one? Why? They both offer the French immersion, but I don't know if one school would be better suited to my child than another school.

Thanks for your experiences.

My neighbor's son went to the program at Herndon ES and was very pleased with it but I can't do any comparisons. It's all the same county curriculum so I'm assuming it would be like comparing elementary schools in terms of administration and teachers. My first thought is which one do you live nearer? I may be wrong but it's my understanding that transportation is not provided for the immersion programs so you may want to take that into account.

Thanks choff5- I don't live particularly close to either and yes, understand that I'd have to provide transportation. It seems on greatschools that Kent Gardens is a better school, but since this is a special immersion program, I wasn't sure if that affected the quality. And it's always good to hear from actual experiences instead of just test scores...

thx

Because Kent Gardens draws from a higher socioeconomic community than does Herndon, the test scores are going to be higher there.
Unless you are planning to move, it makes sense to choose the school closest to home.

Liloulou -- we are moving to the area and we were about to move to Herndon because Husband's job is in Reston and we wanted french immersion for our daughters. I got cold feet about the test scores and after hearing some bad reports about middle schools and high schools in the area. I don't know how long you are planning on staying and whether that is a concern or not. I don't know if we'll be able to get into the french immersion program, but we will be living in the district.

I live in North Reston and most of the families I know with teens are quite happy with Herndon High. Our teenage sitters are students there.

Thanks for the further input. I think we're just going to not do the French immersion program since we're in Loudoun County with an excellent elementary school. I'm going to keep speaking to my child in French and try to make annual trips to France so she can interact with her cousins and family there. Maybe find some private classes too for a few months. Thanks for bringing this thread up again though.
